A while ago I started collecting old oil paintings of flowers after I had seen a lovely eclectic collection in a magazine. When grouped together it doesn't really matter what the individual paintings are like, as it's the overall effect which makes the statement. Sourcing floral paintings from car boot sales and eBay has now become a minor obsession of mine.
I also spotted the visual merchandisers Anthropologie and Fishs Eddy in New York had also used this idea, using old portraits.
Oh dear, I feel a new collection coming on!

oooh I love this! I also have a little portrait collection (4...!) but they are totally gorgeous and in oil. I love them! I'm sure you would like them, the colours are wonderful muted reds, greys and greens and yellows. And I agree they look fantastic when hung together in clusters. x

I seem to remember having seen some of them Steffi and they are lovely. And of people you know which is even nicer!

Hello, I was searching for Elspeth Thompson and found your blog.
Having read your post about collecting paintings of flowers I thought you might enjoy Posy's blog. She loves flowery things and has a lovely collection of pictures on her living room wall http://posy.typepad.com/posy/corners_of_my_home/
Best wishes
