If we're not all too sick of wedding references, I've just been sent a sample of the new perfume from the hard working team at the British perfume house Grossmith, it's called Betrothal.
Much like Grossmith's other three smells this new one, launched last week, is a proper perfume; a warm, rich, jasmine and rosy floral with a silky after glow. Really lovely. And very grown up. In fact I think maybe a bit too grown up for young brides, this is rather suited to more confident, mature brides, perfect for our market.
Buying for brides, particularly 35+ ones, is tricky as often they have everything anyway, with firm views on what they will and wont let into the house. Buying perfume can be risky too, but this one is rather beautiful and could be a fabulous alternative to a cut glass decanter. I bet no one else will think of it.
I love the idea of scenting the happy occasion too, the bride could then wear the perfume on anniversaries to remember the day (if she doesn't adopt it as her daily perfume), smell and memory being so strongly linked.
Of course what happens if there is a divorce I don't know, but hey! One step at a time.
Betrothal was launched at Roja Dove Perfume on the fifth floor at Harrods last Friday and will be at Fortnum & Mason and Les Senteurs in London by the end of the week. Ask for a sample bottle and go spray a bride-to-be.
