Topshop's autumn winter press day was held last week and there was an abundance of furry things to wear. As we've said before, fur -real or fake- is big for autumn 2011 and a trend we more mature dressers can pull off better than the youngsters, who often look as if they have pulled their granny's mothballed mink out of the back of the wardrobe. Fur needs a bit of gravitas to make it really work.
The complex but glamourous ostrich feather trimmed coat from the Unique collection (above) caught our eye, it looked a challenging wear, but one that would ensure heads would turn. My absolute favourite was the afgan-shaggy, 70s inspired, patchwork sheepskin waistcoat, below. Just call me an old hippy, but how great will this look over those Wallis trousers and a neat cashmere sweater? Not to mention warm.
Anyone who took our advice and bought this Zara gillet when we had all that snow earlier in the year, will be feeling smug, since that look is turning up all over the high street for winter, the Topshop sheepskin one below has rather nice metal clip fasteners.
Fur trims are everywhere, including necklines and cuffs, as seen on this rather nice vintage inspired Unique dress. Those of you who are likely to find yourselves near a boot sale, thrift shop or vintage fair this summer might care to look out for old fur collars and cuffs you can attach yourselves. I've noticed a huge amount of these turning up at vintage fairs near me and they are reasonably priced (eBay has an excellent selection). Roll on the snow!
