such a nostalgic image for me - my mum had a sewing shop & I used to sit at her feet sorting buttons as her foot operated the pedal on her machine...can you believe that you can now buy machines without pedals & you press a button to make it sew - doesn't seem right!

And with those old sewing machines you could fix things easily when they went wrong, I only have to look at my fancy but might tempremental overlocking machine and it stops working, only to remain in the menders for weeks.
