SADLY THIS RESTAURANT HAS CLOSED..WE'LL KEEP YOU POSTED AS TO WHEN IT OPENS AGAIN. 12/02/2011
For our Women's Room first general meeting of the year (oh, ok pizza and gossiping) we went to the newly moved Story Deli in Dray Walk behind the Old Truman Brewery off Brick Lane. The delcious pizzas are served on wood platters and cappuccinos in 70s style glass and metal mugs, although we do feel they could have put the heating on a bit higher (to be fair it was one of the coldest days ever).
When you've eaten, you can wander upstairs and swoon over the immense style of Ann Shore, owner and stylist for Italian Vogue, who has a small home collection on display. Ann puts stuff together in such a romantic, ethereal way that we could only stand and wonder over her lovely piles of shells, natural linens, glass bottles, vintage jewels and distressed antique mirrors. The displays are so lovely it makes you want to go home and re merchandise your house.
Story's homes and lifestyle store in Wilkes Street has closed, we think the plan is to move the deli and store under one, gorgeous roof, which is a brilliant idea. Although it means lunch could end up being very expensive. Another reason to head East for inspiration if you live in London
Story Deli is open 12- 10.30pm every day, 3 Dray Walk, The Old Truman Brewery, 91 Brick Lane, E16QL Tel 07918 197352

Piles of shells at Story
I'm thinking the Ann Shore stuff doesn't translate in pictures because it looks decidedly UNmerchandised to me.
The coffee and pizza, however, look fabulous.

Never tasted a better pizza. it's a mad marvellous excentric place and my new favourite haunt (when I'm in London that is). Insane also as child labour doesn't appear to be frowned upon. Like I said: mad but fab.

I know Jen, the piles of shells are not perhaps the best photo for capturing the mood, but it was lovely really, she had lots of nice hanging strings of shells and jewels and stuff, we were taking the photos covertly. Next time we're there we'll try and get better ones! Ax

Does anyone remember the bright multi-colored aluminum glasses from the 1950s or so? They came in sets of multiple colors. Are they safe to drink out of?
