Amanda is staying in a brand new hotel here in Forte dei Marmi, it's only been open for 10 days and is causing a stir of interest in the small town, as they don't like 'new' much here, rightly so as the town is charming just as it is. The Principe is very modern and quite out of character from the Tuscan style holiday homes and traditional looking hotels here, which are all concealed behind mature hedges of gardenia and hibiscus or tucked away down pine tree lined narrow streets.
Yesterday I spotted that a delegation of UK travel press had arrived, from some very top end publications, presumably to review the hotel. I thought, 'why not review it for TWR? So I'm beating them to it - we like to get things to you first!
The Principe, Forte Dei Marmi, in a nutshell:
It's very modern glamour with every surface being either cream, chrome or natural wood. Expect to see it in Wallpaper or Elle Deco any day soon.
It has a terrific roof top bar with great views of the sea and the mountains.
It has a lot of very funky digital room-equipment that is having a few teething problems (last night we couldn't figure out how to turn all the lights off and resorted to pulling plugs out of the walls and occasionally the lights go on all by themselves). We love the flash card entry tho', very 24.
The pool area is gorgeous and we love the bed/table loungers.
We are given bicycles for our stay, which is the best and most fun way to get around town, and it's flat!
It is attached to the Marechiaro Bagno, which has brilliant food, service and beach side ambiance.
Don't come if you are on a budget, or perhaps come for a long weekend rather than a week. Forte dei Marmi is a beautiful but pretty expensive place, although we've seen some lovely looking smaller hotels which must be better value. The local shops include a Lanvin, Hermes and Louis Vuitton...you get the picture.
Here are some pictures of the hotel as we saw it.....
